Wow. That’s amazing!

07. “Lauren”…or Is It Sylvia?
Truman Burbank:
I’m Truman Burbank.
Sylvia as Lauren Garland:
Yeah, I know. Y-you know, Truman, I’m not allowed to talk to you.
Truman Burbank:
Really? Yeah, well, I can understand it: I’m a pretty dangerous character.
Sylvia as Lauren Garland:
I-I’m sorry; it’s not up to me.
Truman Burbank:
Girls got to be careful.
Truman Burbank:
You have a boyfriend, right?
Sylvia as Lauren Garland:
No, it’s not that.
Truman Burbank:
Is it—was it Meryl, that girl that was with me? We’re not—we don’t—we-we’re not fr—well, we just—we’re friends.
Sylvia as Lauren Garland:
It’s nothing like that.
Truman Burbank:
It’s how I look? Not your type?
Sylvia as Lauren Garland:
No.
Pin:
HOW’S IT GOING TO END?
Truman Burbank:
I like your pin. I was wondering that myself.
Would you wanna, maybe, possibly, sometime, go out for some pizza or something? Like Friday?
Sylvia shakes her head
Truman Burbank:
Saturday?
Sylvia as Lauren Garland:
I can’t.
Truman Burbank:
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday?
Sylvia writes “NOW”
Truman Burbank:
We have finals tomorrow.
Sylvia as Lauren Garland:
Yeah, I know. (whispers) If we don’t go now, it won’t happen. Do you understand? So what do you want to do?
Sylvia:
We’ve so little time; they’re gonna be here any minute.
Truman Burbank:
Who are?
Sylvia:
They don’t want me talking to you.
Truman Burbank:
Then don’t talk.
Truman kisses Sylvia
Sylvia:
They’re here.
Truman!
Truman Burbank:
What do they want?
Sylvia:
Listen to me: Everybody knows about you. Everybody knows everything you do. They’re pretending, Truman. Do you understand? Everybody’s pretending!
Truman Burbank:
Lauren, I don’t know—
Sylvia:
No, no, no! My name’s not Lauren; it’s Sylvia. My name’s Sylvia.
Truman Burbank:
Sylvia?
Sylvia:
Yeah.
Man:
Lauren, sweetheart, not again.
Truman Burbank:
Hey, wait a minute: who are you?
Man:
I’m her father!
Truman Burbank:
What?
Sylvia:
I’ve never even seen him before.
Man:
Come on, sweetie.
Truman Burbank:
We weren’t doing anything.
Man:
Please, honey—
Sylvia:
He’s lying!
Man:
Honey, please.
Sylvia:
Truman, please!, don’t listen to him.
Man:
No, no.
Truman Burbank:
Hey, what’s going on?
Sylvia:
Everything I’ve told you is the truth!
Man:
Please.
Sylvia:
This! (reaches down, grabs sand, places it in Truman’s hand) It-it’s fake; it’s all for you.
Truman Burbank:
I don’t understand.
Sylvia:
And the sky, and the sea—
Man:
Come on, honey.
Sylvia:
—everything—it’s a set.
Truman Burbank:
I don’t—
Man:
Please.
Sylvia:
It’s a show.
Man:
Everything’s gonna be alright.
Sylvia:
Everybody’s watching you—please don’t listen to him!
Man:
Please, Lauren.
Sylvia:
He’s gonna lie to you!
Truman Burbank:
What’s going on?
Sylvia:
They’re watching us right now!
Truman Burbank:
I really would like to know what’s going on!
Man:
Schizophrenia.
Sylvia:
Please!
Man:
She has episodes.
Truman Burbank:
Schiza-what?
Sylvia:
Oh, no!
Man:
We’ve tried everything. Hypnotism—everything—
Sylvia:
Don’t—don’t listen to him—Truman!
Man:
—shock therapy— Don’t worry.
Sylvia:
Truman!
Man:
Don’t worry; you’re not the first. You’re not the first.
Sylvia:
Truman!
Man:
She brings all her boyfriends down here.
Sylvia:
What’s he saying? Truman, he’s lying!
Get out of here. Come and find me.
Man:
Don’t worry. We’re going to Fiji.
Truman Burbank:
I’ll see you in school!
Man:
Fiji. We’re moving to Fiji.
Sylvia:
There is no school!
Truman Burbank:
Fiji?
Truman Burbank:
Sylvia! Hey!
08. Paranoia
Radio:
He’s heading west on Stewart. Stand by, all extras. Lloyd, he’ll be on you in about ninety seconds. Props, make sure the coffee is hot. Okay, he’s making his turn onto Lancaster Square… Oh, my God! He nearly hit Alice!—something’s wrong—change frequencies!

12. “I’m Being Spontaneous”
13. Blocked At Every Turn
14. Mococoa—It’s The Best!
Hannah Gill:
How can anyone expect me to carry on under these conditions!? It’s unprofessional!
15. Father And Son Reunion
Louis Coltrane as Marlon:
Well, the point is, I would gladly step in front of traffic for you, Truman. And the last thing I would ever do is lie to you.
I mean, think about it, Truman: if everybody is in on it, I’d have to be in on it, too. I’m not in on it, Truman, because—there is no “it.”
16. Trutalk
We Accept the Reality of the World With Which We’re Presented
Mike Michaelson:
Why do you think that Truman has never come close to discovering the true nature of his world until now?
Christof:
We accept the reality of the world with which we’re presented. It’s as simple as that.
The Way Christof Thinks the World Should Be
Christof:
Seahaven is the way the world should be.
Sylvia:
He’s not a performer; he’s a prisoner. Look at him, look at what you’ve done to him!
Christof:
He could leave at any time. If his was more than just a vague ambition, if he was absolutely determined to discover the truth, there’s no way we could prevent him. I think what distresses you, really, caller, is that, ultimately, Truman prefers his cell, as you call it.
17. Do You Think He Knows?
18. “He’s Gone.”
Louis Coltrane:
He’s gone!
19. Setting Sail
20. Cue The Storm
Localising the Storm Over the Boat
Simeon:
No, I think we’re gonna wanna localise the storm over the boat.
Truman Burbank:
Is that the best you can do!? You’re gonna have to kill me!!
21. The Sky’s The Limit
22. “Who Am I?”
Christof:
Truman. You can speak. I can hear you.
Truman Burbank:
Who are you?
Christof:
I am the creator—of a television show—that gives hope and joy and inspiration to millions.
Truman Burbank:
Then who am I?
Christof:
You’re the star.
Truman Burbank:
Was nothing real?
Christof:
You were real. That’s what made you so good to watch.
Listen to me, Truman. There’s no more truth out there than there is in the world I created for you. The same lies, the same deceit—but in my world, you have nothing to fear.
I know you better than you know yourself.
Truman Burbank:
You never had a camera in my head.
Christof:
You’re afraid. That’s why you can’t leave. It’s okay, Truman. I understand, I have been watching you your whole life. I was watching when you were born. I was watching when you took your first step. I watched you on your first day of school—the episode where you lost your first tooth.
You can’t leave, Truman.
Sylvia:
Please, God.
Christof:
You belong here—
Sylvia:
You can do it.
Christof:
—with me.
Talk to me. Say something.
Well say something, God damn it; you’re on television. You’re live to the whole world!
23. Good Afternoon, Good Evening, & Good Night
Truman Burbank:
In case I don’t see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and goodnight.
